Paws for the Cause

Karma says: Spaying and neutering saves lives!

Paws for the Cause would love your help....

Paws for the Cause loves to work with new rescues!  We want to ensure our animals get the best that rescues can offer.  Because of this, we will only place our dogs and cats with rescues that have the same philosophies and standards that we use when we adopt out animals.

Vet Work

The rescue must spay or neuter prior to adoption or have a spay/neuter contract, and follow up with the adopter to ensure the dog or cat is spayed by the time they are 6 months old.  In addition to altering, the rescue must do all other necessary vetting, including vaccinations, heartworm tests and dentals.

Foster Based

The rescue must be primarily foster based.  We prefer our animals go to a foster home.  Some exceptions will be made.

Approval Process

The rescue must use an application process, personal/veterinary reference checks and agree to do a home visit prior to adopting out a dog that came from Paws for the Cause.  The animal should be placed in a home that is a good fit, where every member of the family has met the animal prior to adoption.  No exceptions.

No Kill Policy

The rescue must be no-kill.  Exceptions are only allowed for instances of human aggression, severe animal aggression, or severe, incurable medical conditions that cause serious loss of quality of life.  (Paws for the Cause always discloses any known behavioral or medical issues, but the animal could potentially have issues we are not aware of.)

Return Policy

The rescue must have a policy where if the animal does not work out for the adopter, he or she is returned to the rescue for rehoming.  If for any reason the animal is transferred to another rescue, Paws for the Cause needs to be notified and will have the option to reclaim the animal if the other rescue does not meet our criteria.
