About Paws for the Cause

Paws for the Cause seeks to decrease the number of unwanted pets on the Lake Traverse Reservation, in the Sisseton, SD area. We do this by:

Moving unwanted animals to other rescues for placement
Helping injured animals in need of immediate veterinary attention
Providing educational information on animal care and the importance of spaying and neutering
Providing low cost spays and neuters to the reservation community

URGENT!!!! 7/20 He will be shot if a rescue does not step up to help!

Someone dumped a male dog on the rez who is skinny and sick and hiding under someone's porch. This dog needs immediate help! The person who has the dog under his porch called the tribal police and they gave him Kitra's number. The person said that he called tribal police to come out and shoot the dog because he does not own a gun to do it himself. If a rescue will help this poor dog, Kitra will pick it up asap but she cannot go get the dog without a rescue committment because she has no where for the dogs already in her care to go (they have been at the pound, tribal housing, bad conditions for weeks and no rescues have room for them). PLEASE, if you can help, call Kitra.

URGENT FARM PUPS! Still waiting! 7/29/09

UPDATE: 2 of these black and white guys are still alive and are about a year old. They are black lab/german shorthair mixes. The other two and their mom didn't make it. PLEASE HELP THESE TWO BEFORE THEY END UP WITH THE SAME FATE.

There are also 9 more black lab mix puppies around 8.5 weeks old. Please let Kitra know if you can take any these guys.

Stray Round Up

We are working with the tribe to coordinate a round up of the stray dogs in the area. We are hoping to pull them all to safety. We need rescues to step up and volunteer to take dogs. At this point, we are in the planning stages and don't know when it will happen, or how many dogs we will get. If you can help with transport or are a rescue that can take dogs, please contact Kitra. BAGGAGE

Yes I come with baggage,
Sitting here in this cell

Maybe I was so loved
A pet that just lost his way
Maybe I never knew a home
They say “Just a plain old stray”
Or maybe I was dumped, through no fault of my own
Never again to see, the place I once called home.

Yes I come with baggage,

Taken from everything
The only things you ever knew.

Take me home and I can guarantee
I won’t be the perfect pet,
I may not sit, or lay, or stay,
And yes, I may scratch the vet.

Scratch the furniture, chew a hole
